emulate fullscreen but do not actually enter fullscreen (so only the site thinks it's fullscreen)

some sites behave different in regular window vs fullscreen. they do this with some button which asks the browser to enter fullscreen.

is it technically possible to override such a site command and tell the site, "yeah, we're fullscreen now, here are the sizes", but actually keep the window on screen as regular window (no change)?
