Change the width of the browser, but not the height. (and draw a fold line for the height instead)

That is a nice idea but it's a radical departure from the way the extension currently works and the way the current user base (500,000+ users) expects it to work. Also, implementing it as an option would add too much complexity to the extension, overweighting its benefits.
